The Apple Store is offering a "memory
rebate promo" : "Configure your Apple computer and
upgrade its RAM from the base configuration and Apple will give
you an instant savings of 50% on your upgraded memory. Savings
are applied to your final invoice". This offer is valid for
new Cube buyers.
Dual Monitor on the Cube : it works!
Several days ago we explained that the Cube can
handle two monitors with the help of a new video card. One of
our readers has bought one :
"Regarding your article on dual head displays,
I picked up one at MacWorld SF (on sales) and installed in my
Cube and it works fine - I don't play a lot of games on the Cube
so 3D is not a big issue, and this card is a bit weak in that
area, but for 2D work and adding a second monitor to the Cube,
THIS CARD IS GREAT!!!

Cubes in Color
Patrick, one of our readers, has designed new wrappers
for the Cube.If you wished to own a customized Cube, it is the
way to go! There is also a template to help you design yours.
You Cube can now be purple, indigo, or whatever you want. Check
his page
for more information. If you design good wrappers, send them to
us (or send us a link to your site), we'll put them on-line. Here
is a sample of the wrappers created by Patrick.

can do it too....but it will void your warranty... and you may

Dual Monitor on the Cube
One of our readers, Cris, who also is the Editor
of MacRocks.com, has tried
to find a dual monitor card for the Cube. Here is the result of
his investigations :
"I have been intrigued by the G4 Cube since
it was first unveiled. I like many were concerned over the limited
expandability. I was most wanting to see dual monitor support
solutions. Long story - short: I found that ProMax
has their hot G4 Dual Head AGP card available for the Cube. This
may or may not be news to Cube owners, but I thought it was significant
enough to pass along at any rate. ProMax quoted me $331.00 for
the card, freight included.

found a PowerMac Cube G4/450 plus 256MB RAM for $1,599.99. it
is sold by PC Warehouse.

New carrying cases for the Cube.
Willow
Design has introduced new carrying cases for the Cube and
the 15" TFT display. This reinforced case is available in
several colors (black, carchoal, navy, teal, purple) and costs
$220. There is a lifetime guarantee against defects in materials
or craftsmanship.

Software : Griffin Releases iMic Control
Griffin Technology released a beta version of their
iMic Control utility for their iMic universal USB audio input
and output adapter. Version 1.0b6 of the iMic Control gives users
a new level of control for USB audio devices. It includes output
control over bass, treble, volume, mute, and balance. It also
includes control over audio input gain. The iMic Control can be
downloaded free from Griffin's
site.
OS X utility
You can now start to customize Mac OS X. If you
do not like to see the dock at the bottom of the screen, Docking
Maneuvers let you use it wherever you want.
A new look for the Cube-Zone.
As you may have noticed, the Cube-Zone now has a
brand new look. It has been designed by Bernie, from Visualtonic.com.
If you encounter some problems accessing the site with Netscape,
please, send us a mail.
A slow recovery....
The Cube-Zone is slowly recovering from the disaster
that occured on the 28th.... We are still looking for somebody
who has the "Save the Cube" petition files..... You
can now sign the petition again
(yes we are unfortunately starting again from the beginning)....

The Cube-Zone has been destroyed!
Due to an error of our provider, the Cube-Zone
has been entirely destroyed yesterday..... Our backup files are
not complete. We especially don't have the Petition pages....
If you have them in your cache files...please send them to us.

G4 Cube My Way : another way to support the Cube
As promised, we are beginning to put online the pictures of our
users' desks. Check the gallery in order
to know what they look like! If you want to add your own pictures,
feel free to send us a mail! This is another way to support the
Cube and show why everybody should buy one.
New Cube Firmware.
Apple has
posted a new firmware for the Cube. You can find it here. However,
you should be careful before installing it. We do not recommend
installing this firmware if you have added some third party RAM.
Sometimes, after the installtion, only the Apple RAM is recognized.
Apple should release a fix in the near future.
According to Apple, "Firmware Update 4.1.8 includes improvements
to Firewire target disk mode, network booting, gigabit networking
(on systems with gigabit hardware), and system stability. This update
also adds support for additional security options which allow the
Open Firmware to be password protected".
OS X and Cube sleep : a potential problem?
Some of our readers who have installed Mac OS X on their Cube are
experiencing problems with the sleep mode of their mac under mac
OS X. Here is what they say :
"At the very beginning, the sleep mode seemed to work very
well. However, I had some surprises : the Cube went to sleep but
did not want to wake up. i had to boot again. And sometimes the
Cube boots with OS 9 only. During my last attempt to put the Cube
to sleep I had a hard disk crash..... It seems that the sleep mode
under OS X is far from complete (Or did i do something wrong?).
